A 26-year-old California man was killed and a Canandaigua woman was hospitalized after a wrong-way crash involving three vehicles on the New York State Thruway in Genesee County, according to New York State Police.
Troopers identified the man who died as Josias Perez, 26, of Caruthers, California. Katie L. Briggs, 44, of Canandaigua, was driving an SUV involved in the crash and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with internal injuries.
State Police said the crash happened around 10:48 p.m. Sept. 4 on I-90 eastbound near mile marker 379.7 in the town of LeRoy.
A preliminary investigation found that a pickup truck was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided with Briggs’ SUV. A tractor-trailer was also involved.
Perez, who was driving the pickup, was pronounced dead. The two occupants of the tractor-trailer were not injured.
The eastbound lanes were temporarily closed while investigators conducted crash reconstruction.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Troop A and the Collision Reconstruction Unit are assisting with the case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
