William Smith volleyball continued its strong start to the season Saturday, sweeping Oswego State 3-0 on the second day of the Heron Invitational.
The Herons improved to 2-0 with another commanding offensive performance, finishing with 55 kills while hitting .456 as a team. Oswego managed 20 kills and hit .118. William Smith also held advantages in assists, 54-21, and digs, 36-18, while recording six service aces.
First-year Cassidy Breuer continued to make an immediate impact, producing a career-high 18 kills on a .367 hitting percentage while adding eight digs. Junior Emily Fulton contributed 12 kills while hitting .478, along with eight digs and a match-high four service aces.
Arielle Newsome added eight kills while hitting .500, and Senya Dorny recorded seven kills on a .400 hitting percentage.
William Smith controlled the opening set from the start, recording 18 kills and limiting Oswego to seven. Breuer had five kills in the set as the Herons rolled to a 25-13 victory.
The second set followed a similar script. William Smith again recorded 18 kills, this time hitting .640, while Oswego managed just five kills. Breuer and Newsome combined for 11 kills as the Herons took the set 25-15.
Oswego showed more fight in the third set, but William Smith remained in control. The Herons finished with 19 kills and 13 digs in the set before Jayden Hanson delivered the final kill to complete the 25-18 victory.
Hanson and Delainy Williams combined for 42 assists, while Kali Vanderhoof added seven digs.
William Smith will face No. 15 Wesleyan on Sunday at noon in Bristol Gymnasium.
