FEMA has approved more than $12 million in Public Assistance for Vermont communities repairing railroad, road, bridge and culvert damage from severe storms and flooding in 2023 and 2024.
The largest award is $10.9 million to the Vermont Agency of Transportation for permanent repairs to Green Mountain Railroad after storms, floods, landslides and mudslides in 2023.
The town of Roxbury will receive $424,944 to repair or replace road base, pavement and embankments damaged in the same 2023 disaster.
Hinesburg will receive $347,699 for bridge repairs tied to severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides in 2024.
Fayston will receive $336,390 to repair or replace road surfaces and culverts damaged in 2024.
Brookfield will receive $298,616 to remove a corrugated metal pipe culvert and install a concrete box culvert with wing walls after 2023 storm damage.
Plainfield will receive $171,359 for gravel road-base, shot-rock and surface repairs associated with 2024 storms and flooding.
FEMA's Public Assistance program sends money through states and eligible local applicants for critical infrastructure, public facilities, roads and costs incurred to protect public health and safety after disasters.
