A Syracuse man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated early Sunday after deputies said he left a domestic incident in Penn Yan and was later stopped in the town of Benton.
Gregory D. Tartt Jr., 41, was located on Preemption Road around 4:49 a.m. after the Penn Yan Police Department alerted Yates County sheriff’s deputies that a man had left the village while intoxicated, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Tartt showed signs of intoxication during the traffic stop and was arrested on a felony common-law DWI charge.
He was taken to the Yates County Jail, where deputies said he refused to submit to a chemical test.
The sheriff’s office said Tartt had a previous DWI conviction in 2022 in the city of Auburn. He was turned over to correctional staff to await centralized arraignment proceedings.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the incident.
