Juvenile charged after resisting police during Ithaca dispute

A juvenile was charged Monday night after Ithaca police said he resisted officers who tried to detain him during a large dispute in the 100 block of East Green Street.

The juvenile, whom police described as one of the alleged victims in the original dispute, was charged with obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation. Police said he was also found with a replica handgun.

Officers encountered the dispute around 10:30 p.m. after a group of juveniles had allegedly been threatened with a knife, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

Police said officers were working to keep the parties separated when the juvenile refused commands and aggressively lunged and pushed toward the alleged suspect. He physically resisted when officers tried to detain him, the department said.

No knife was found at the scene or on the alleged suspect. Police did not release additional information about the juvenile because of his age.

The original dispute remains under investigation. Witnesses or others with information may call Ithaca police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the department's administrative line at 607-272-9973 or its tip line at 607-330-0000, or submit an anonymous tip at cityofithaca.org/ipdtips.
