New York State offers Canadian travel discounts after visits fell 26%

New York State launched a tourism promotion offering Canadian travelers discounts on lodging and attractions as tourism businesses respond to a decline of more than 26% in visits from Canada during 2025.

The NY Loves Canada campaign highlights deals available through the final weeks of summer in August and September, with some offers continuing through December.

Discounts vary by participating attraction or lodging property and are intended in part to offset the currency exchange rate. Offers are listed through the state's I Love NY tourism program.

Canada remains New York's largest inbound international travel market, but Canadian visitor spending declined 28% last year. Overall visitation to New York rose 1.1% to 321 million people in 2025, while international travel fell 6%.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said tourism businesses, particularly those near the northern border, are feeling the decline and described the campaign as an invitation for Canadians to return. State tourism director Ross Levi said the offers cover destinations from Niagara Falls and the Thousand Islands to the Adirondacks and New York City.

The statewide promotion complements New York City's Northern Neighbour Deal, which includes hotel, attraction, dining and Broadway offers. New York businesses and attractions interested in joining the state campaign can contact their regional Tourism Promotion Agency.
