The Ithaca City School District Board of Education failed to select legal counsel for the 2026-27 school year after questions emerged about how the district’s current law firm appeared on the agenda for reappointment, according to The Ithaca Voice.
Bond, Schoeneck & King was listed for approval despite the board not having publicly discussed the three proposals submitted through the district’s request-for-proposals process.
Board members also questioned a letter from the firm thanking the district for reconfirming its representation, even though no final vote had been taken.
The discussion became contentious, with members raising concerns about transparency, procurement rules and whether the board should interview all three firms in executive session.
No motion was made to approve Bond, Schoeneck & King, leaving the district’s next steps for legal representation unclear.
