Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva ranked fourth nationally for engaged community service and seventh for accessible professors in The Princeton Review's 2027 college guide.
HWS also placed 10th for happiest students, 10th for active student government and 12th for town-gown relations. The colleges appeared on The Princeton Review's Best in the Northeast and Colleges That Create Futures lists as well.
The Princeton Review's Best 392 Colleges includes 50 ranking lists, each naming 25 schools in areas including academics, campus life, civic engagement and quality of life. The rankings are based on surveys from more than 172,000 students, an average of 439 responses per school, conducted during the 2025-26 academic year and the two previous academic years.
Students surveyed about HWS highlighted small, discussion-based classes, faculty mentorship and opportunities to participate in student government, community service, athletics and more than 100 student organizations, according to the colleges' release.
The guide also gave HWS institutional ratings of 97 out of 99 for professor accessibility and 93 for interesting professors. The colleges received ratings of 92 for financial aid, 89 for quality of life, 88 for admissions, 88 for academic experience, 87 for environmental practices and 95 for fire safety.
HWS was also included among The Princeton Review's Best Value Colleges for the 10th consecutive year. In those rankings, the colleges placed ninth for making an impact, 10th for alumni network and 12th for internships, with a return-on-investment rating of 90 out of 99.
The release cited PayScale figures showing median salaries of $69,100 for HWS graduates early in their careers and $132,600 at midcareer.
