The Harley School will return as an ESL Rochester Fringe Festival venue in September, hosting an all-ages juggling and comedy show and three stand-up performances by Rochester native Madelein Murphy.
All performances will be held at the school, 1981 Clover St. in Rochester. Tickets cost $12 for Ted Baumhauer's "A Magic Problem" and $20 for "Madelein Murphy: Lesbian American Princess."
The school joined the Fringe Festival as a venue for the first time in 2025. Ryan Kimmet, head of school, said hosting performers fits the campus's focus on creativity and gives the Rochester community another intimate setting for festival events.
A juggling show for all ages
Baumhauer will perform "A Magic Problem" at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, and 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. Both performances are open to all ages.
The solo show combines juggling, storytelling and comedy while exploring the contrast between illusion and skills developed through practice. The release describes the performance as fast-paced and focused on perseverance, creativity and mastering a craft.
Murphy returns for three stand-up sets
Murphy will perform at 4, 6 and 8 p.m. Sept. 20. The 4 p.m. show carries a PG-13 rating, while the two later performances are limited to audiences 18 and older.
The Rochester native recently released her comedy special "Muddin'" on streaming platforms. She has performed internationally for more than a decade in comedy clubs, colleges and cruise ships and opened for Tig Notaro during the 2023 Rochester Fringe Festival.
Her new show draws on crowd work and personal stories about family, relationships and growing up in Rochester.
