Keuka College honored Penn Yan residents Steve and Susan Heller with its 2026 Stork Award for Community Service, recognizing more than three decades of volunteer work and leadership in Yates County.
More than 100 community members attended a luncheon Tuesday at the college, including about a dozen previous recipients of the award.
The Hellers have served organizations including the Yates County Arts Council, Keuka Comfort Care Home and the Keuka Lake Association. They also have helped organize and support the Krossin' Keuka family swim and the Life Is a Journey 10K.
Keuka College President Amy Storey said the couple's willingness to share their time and talents has made the community stronger and more connected.
Established in 1991, the Donald and Corrine Stork Award for Community Service recognizes area residents for volunteerism, leadership and civic engagement. It is named for the award's first recipients.
State Sen. Thomas O'Mara and Assemblymember Phil Palmesano also co-sponsored a state legislative proclamation honoring the Hellers for their service.
Susan Heller said serving the community has allowed the couple to meet people who became close friends. Steve Heller said the award's namesakes were role models who served quietly and without fanfare.
