A Savannah man faces two felony charges after deputies accused him of firing a rifle projectile at a Wayne County Sheriff's Office drone and disabling its camera system.
Kurtis Stack, 34, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree reckless endangerment, according to a sheriff's office release issued Wednesday.
The sheriff's Drone Aviation Response Team was assisting an investigation near Aikens and Cotton roads in the Town of Savannah on July 30 when the aircraft was struck while providing an aerial view of the area, deputies said.
Investigators allege Stack fired the projectile from a rifle. The release did not identify the type of projectile or estimate the damage to the drone.
Stack was processed and held at the Wayne County Jail pending centralized arraignment. The Federal Aviation Administration assisted the sheriff's office with the investigation.
