New York has opened a $60 million competition to establish as many as four regional hubs intended to turn quantum research into commercial products, startup companies and jobs.
Each selected Quantum Technology Commercialization Hub could receive up to $15 million, and applications are due Oct. 14, Gov. Kathy Hochul's office said Wednesday.
The hubs will connect universities, researchers, businesses and government partners and operate incubators for quantum-focused startups. Services are expected to include mentorship and access to regional networks and quantum-computing resources.
The program will be administered by Empire State Development's Division of Science, Technology and Innovation, known as NYSTAR. It was proposed in Hochul's 2026 State of the State address and funded in the fiscal 2027 state budget.
Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with relevant experience in quantum research, technology incubation and innovation operations. Multiple organizations may apply as a consortium if one is designated as the lead applicant.
Empire State Development plans an informational session Aug. 21. Prospective applicants must request application materials by email by Aug. 18, according to the announcement.
