Fayette woman charged in child endangerment, welfare fraud cases

A Fayette woman faces misdemeanor child endangerment and reckless endangerment charges as well as separate felony welfare fraud allegations, according to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested L.C. Collins, 34, on Aug. 6 following a 911 call two days earlier. Investigators alleged Collins struck a child younger than 17 and then drove recklessly near two children, creating a substantial risk of serious injury.

Collins was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree harassment, the sheriff's office said.

In a separate investigation, detectives alleged Collins gave inaccurate information to the Seneca County Department of Human Services from 2023 through 2025 and received public assistance benefits she was not entitled to receive.

Those allegations resulted in charges of third-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny and misuse of food stamps, all Class D felonies, along with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a Class E felony.

Collins was taken to the law enforcement center in Romulus for centralized arraignment on all charges, deputies said.
