United Way of Central New York is reducing allocations to several nonprofit organizations after its campaign revenue fell by an average of 11% annually over the past five years, according to WSTM.
Affected organizations include the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, ARISE and Elmcrest Children’s Center.
United Way previously used investment funds to support partner agencies but will now base funding on money raised through its annual campaign.
The organization said reduced federal support and diminished giving capacity among individuals and businesses are widening funding gaps as demand rises for food, housing, youth and mental health services.
Central New York nonprofits will hold their annual Day of Caring on Aug. 6, with volunteers participating in community projects across the region.
