The Yates County Legislature's Government Operations Committee will consider appointing John Christensen as Democratic election commissioner when it meets Monday, Aug. 3.
The meeting is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. in the legislative chambers at 417 Liberty St. in Penn Yan, with remote access available through Zoom.
The proposed appointment would fill the remainder of the current term and a subsequent two-year term, according to the agenda packet. Christensen is expected to begin training Aug. 3 before officially becoming commissioner Sept. 1.
The Board of Elections reported that all audits and canvassing from the primary were completed and turnout was 20%. Staff members are also preparing for the state's new Voting and Elections Database Act reporting system.
The committee will also consider contracts for automated data management software and employee biometric screening services. Another resolution would ratify a letter supporting Penn Yan's application to update its comprehensive plan through the Smart Growth Community Planning Program.
