The Yates County Finance Committee agreed to eliminate a 5% administrative credit previously offered to short-term rental owners who remitted occupancy taxes.
Finance staff sought guidance on the credit as booking agencies began remitting some occupancy taxes, according to minutes from the committee’s July 7 meeting.
The county had used the credit to encourage short-term rental owners to submit the tax. Minutes from the Yates County Legislature’s session said the credit is not included in the county’s local law, and the county attorney recommended eliminating it.
Committee members determined the credit should be abolished during the meeting.
