A Cato man was jailed Friday after Cayuga County sheriff’s deputies said they found him in a residence with a person protected by a full stay-away order.
Daniel J. Root, 56, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt and aggravated family offense, according to a release from Sheriff Brian Schenck.
Deputies responded to an address in the town of Cato at about 5:20 a.m. July 24 after a woman requested police assistance regarding an unspecified issue, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators said deputies found Root in the same residence as the protected party named in the order. He was taken into custody and transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building for processing.
Root was later arraigned in centralized arraignment court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail, according to the release. The sheriff’s office did not provide information about bail or a future court date.
