A person escaped serious injury after a vehicle went into the water at Cross Lake Marina, prompting a rescue by a New York State trooper and the marina’s owner, according to the Cato Fire Department.
The department said Trooper Cady and Cross Lake Marina owner Dan Titus pulled the occupant from the vehicle before firefighters arrived. The person suffered only minor cuts, according to the department.
Firefighters had been dispatched for a water emergency involving a vehicle in the water with someone still inside. The department did not identify the occupant or provide additional information about the vehicle.
The cause of the incident was not known, firefighters said.
Crews then worked to remove the vehicle and a trailer from the water. The trailer became lodged beneath a dock, complicating the recovery effort as crews attempted to remove it without damaging the property.
Additional help was eventually called to the scene to free and remove the trailer.
The Cato Fire Department said the incident also underscored the need for firefighters to train for water emergencies because of the range of situations crews can encounter.
No serious injuries were reported.
