The Route 414 bridge over the Chemung River in Corning will close to traffic for six hours Wednesday, July 29, while crews work on nearby railroad tracks.
The bridge, which carries Centerway and Cedar Street, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the state Department of Transportation announced Monday.
Drivers will be directed around the closure using Denison Parkway, Bridge Street and East Pulteney Street. DOT advised motorists to expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
The closure will allow work on adjacent Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The schedule is weather-dependent and could change based on conditions.
DOT urged drivers to slow down and use caution in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, and two or more work-zone speeding convictions could lead to a driver's license suspension.
