An Auburn man was charged with felony weapon possession after police said officers found a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition during an investigation on Mann Street.
The Auburn Police Department said its GIVE unit was contacted July 7 by a Cayuga County Probation Department officer about a person on probation who was possibly in possession of a firearm.
Police said officers began investigating and located Andy Alfaro Sr. After contacting him, the investigation led to an address on Mann Street, where police said a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun was found concealed with ammunition.
Alfaro was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony count involving a loaded firearm, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony count involving a previous conviction, according to police.
Police said Alfaro was processed and transported to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment. The Cayuga County District Attorney's Office recommended that he be remanded without bail, according to the release.
