Port Byron Fire Chief Corey Rooker has been named the 2026 winner of the Fire Service Community Achievement Award from the Firefighters Association of the State of New York.
FASNY said Rooker was recognized for 35 years of service to the Port Byron Fire Department and the surrounding community.
Rooker, an interior firefighter and emergency medical technician, comes from a family with a long history in the fire service and is known for prioritizing member safety while maintaining reliable emergency response, according to FASNY.
The organization said his leadership style is hands-on and shaped by decades of fire service experience.
Beyond the fire department, Rooker works in several roles with the Port Byron Central School District, including chief emergency officer, transportation supervisor, facilities and maintenance supervisor, and fitness center manager.
FASNY said he supports daily operations, emergency planning and school safety initiatives, while also providing EMT-level care and leadership during emergencies on school grounds.
At the county level, Rooker serves with the Cayuga County Emergency Management Office as an intelligence liaison officer.
In that role, he provides regional training on terrorism indicators and suspicious activity reporting for fire and EMS personnel and helps educate new EMT students through hands-on instruction, according to FASNY.
FASNY said Rooker's work in emergency response, school safety and regional preparedness training has strengthened the communities he serves.
