Wayne County deputies serve in D.C.

Two Wayne County sheriff’s deputies are serving in Washington, D.C., during the Freedom 250 celebration, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Deputy Kendall Mitchell and Deputy Christopher Sergeant volunteered for a month-long assignment with the U.S. Marshals Service. They were sworn in as deputy U.S. marshals June 19 and are scheduled to serve through July 18.

The deputies are working 12-hour shifts around the National Mall, Reflection Pool and other areas of the capital. Their duties include visible patrols, helping visitors, supporting public events and assisting the U.S. Secret Service when needed.

Sheriff Robert Milby said the assignment is an honor for Wayne County and praised both deputies for stepping forward to serve.
