The Orange Town Board is considering a fire district remap that could leave the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department out of the district, according to WENY.
A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday night. Monterey fire officials say the change could hurt emergency response times, especially for residents who depend on nearby volunteers during medical calls, fires and other emergencies.
Department President Mary Cunningham said Monterey volunteers answered more than 90 calls last year and can often respond within minutes. She warned that relying on departments farther away could add significant delays.
The proposed remap would include East Campbell, Bradford and Beaver Dams. The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Town of Orange Highway Department on Doane Road.
