Construction of the Yates Community Center’s long-awaited expansion continues to move forward, with project leaders reporting that the new facility remains on schedule for completion by the end of the year.
Officials say major milestones have been reached over the past several months, transforming the project from foundation work into a fully enclosed structure.
Foundation work was completed in February, laying the groundwork for the new facility. In March, crews began erecting steel beams and girders, giving residents their first look at the size and scope of the expansion.
Construction continued throughout the spring as workers installed metal siding and roofing. By May, the building shell had been enclosed, the roof was complete, and interior insulation work was underway.
Project leaders said windows are currently being ordered through Marbles Glass and are expected to be installed by the end of June. Once the glass is in place, the building will begin to resemble the finished facility envisioned by the community.
Work planned for the summer includes installing doors, completing under-slab mechanical systems, pouring interior concrete floors and connecting water and gas utilities.
Officials said the project remains on schedule, with construction expected to wrap up by the end of December and the expanded community center slated to open at the end of January.
