Livingston County launches bus option for Honor Flight veterans

Livingston County veterans who have wanted to experience an Honor Flight but could not or did not want to fly will soon have another option, thanks to a new bus trip planned for this fall.

Livingston County Veteran Services announced a partnership with Honor Flight Rochester to offer a ground transportation option for Mission 98, a three-day trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for Oct. 2-4. The program is designed to remove a common barrier that has kept some veterans from participating in the experience.

County officials said veterans and their guardians will travel by bus from the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport and meet up with the traditional Honor Flight group in the nation’s capital. Participants will return to Rochester in time for the customary airport homecoming celebration, which organizers say is one of the most memorable parts of the trip.

Mission 98 coincides with the nation’s America250 celebration and is open to Livingston County veterans of all generations, rather than prioritizing older veterans as many Honor Flight missions do. The county will also cover the cost for local guardians to participate. Veterans interested in taking part must request a seat by June 15 and include “M 98 Bus” in the additional health concerns section of their application.
