Artists looking to explore dramatic contrasts and creative shading techniques will have an opportunity to do so during an upcoming workshop at Artworks Gallery in downtown Seneca Falls.
The Seneca County Arts Council announced that artist Roberta Nelson will lead a Positive-Negative Drawing Workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 13 at Artworks Gallery, located at 109 Fall St. The class will focus on creating high-contrast drawings using black and white colored pencils to define positive and negative space.
According to Nelson, participants will learn how to transfer a drawing onto illustration board and use shading techniques to create striking visual effects. The process involves combining black paper, white illustration board and colored pencils to emphasize highlights and shadows within a composition.
The workshop costs $30 per person, and registration is required by June 9. Participants are asked to bring basic drawing supplies, while the instructor will provide black paper, white illustration board and tracing paper.
Those interested in attending can register by emailing Roberta Nelson. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is staffed by volunteers.
