An 8-foot sculpture titled “From Where We Land” is now a permanent fixture at Gibson Street Park in Canandaigua after its unveiling Sunday, Sept. 13.
Artist Barron Naegel gave the work to the community with help from the Ontario County Arts Council and its president, Judi Cermak, according to photographer Ben Slomovic, who supplied photos and an account of the event.
One photo shows Cermak, Naegel and Canandaigua Mayor Thomas Lyon beside the sculpture at the park. The work includes a tall blue form above a sphere and a lower panel with a mosaic design. The sculpture and a plaque identifying the work are visible in the supplied image.
After the unveiling, attendees were invited to Gallery 32 on Main Street for a slice of cake shaped like the sculpture and made by Resilience Bakery, Slomovic said.
Slomovic offered the photos for publication and provided a folder with additional images. The sculpture remains on display at Gibson Street Park.
