A Penn Yan man is facing charges after police say he picked up a bank bag containing more than $1,000 that had been left outside a local business and kept it.
Penn Yan Police said Shawn M. Radka, 46, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny following an investigation into the reported theft.
According to police, the bag — containing $1,100 in cash — had been dropped outside a business. Surveillance footage later showed Radka picking up the bag and leaving the area with it.
Officers located Radka, who admitted to taking the bag, police said. Authorities were able to recover $221, which was returned to the owner.
Radka was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charge in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
