Three arrested after gunfire inside Auburn apartment complex

What started as a report of a loud pop inside an Auburn apartment building ended with three arrests and the discovery of illegal firearms, police said.

Officers were called to Standart Woods Apartments around 4:22 p.m. April 28 after a resident reported a suspected bullet had passed through her wall. Responding officers confirmed what appeared to be a bullet hole and quickly expanded the investigation into neighboring units.

Police said multiple bullet holes were ultimately found in two apartments, though no injuries were reported. Three individuals from a nearby apartment were detained as part of the initial response.

As the investigation continued, officers located handguns believed to have been used in the incident. Authorities said the firearms were illegal.

The individuals were identified as Delmar Goldsmith, 22, Vanessa Gardner, 23, and Zamya Goldsmith, 19. All three were taken into custody in connection with the incident.

They face multiple charges, including felony criminal possession of a weapon, along with several misdemeanor counts: criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police assisted in the investigation.
