Judge halts Wayne County farmworker deportation

A grandmother and farmworker got a sudden legal lifeline after a cross-country ICE transfer, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.

Dolores Bustamante Romero was detained at a routine Buffalo appointment, then quickly moved to Ohio and Louisiana. A federal judge stepped in within a day, temporarily blocking her deportation while the court reviews her case.

Her lawyers argue the arrest violated due process after years in a monitoring program. ICE says she already exhausted appeals and remains under a final removal order, setting up a legal fight as supporters rally in Rochester.
