The New York Mets survived a late collapse and responded with an eighth-inning surge to earn a 10-8 win over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night at Citi Field, securing their second straight victory and taking two of three in the series. New York improved to 9-16 on the season while playing its first game without injured Francisco Lindor.
New York jumped ahead early despite a shaky return from Christian Scott, who was making his first major league appearance since elbow surgery in 2024. The right-hander struggled with command, walking five batters and lasting just 1.1 innings while allowing one run. The Mets’ offense picked him up quickly, highlighted by Brett Baty’s three-run homer in the first inning that helped build a 6-1 cushion.
The bullpen pieced together the middle innings effectively, with Tobias Myers, David Peterson, and others limiting damage to keep the Mets in front. But the game flipped in the eighth when Minnesota erased a 7-3 deficit, capped by Ryan Jeffers’ game-tying grand slam. The momentum shift was short-lived, though, as Bo Bichette delivered the decisive blow in the bottom half, ripping a three-run double to restore the lead.
New York’s lineup produced throughout, finishing with 10 runs on timely hitting. Carson Benge added a home run and a double, Luis Robert Jr. chipped in an RBI double, and Marcus Semien recorded two hits. The Mets went 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position, a major improvement after recent offensive struggles.
Devin Williams made things tense in the ninth but closed the door with a strikeout to seal the win.
The Mets will open a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, April 24 at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
