A Lyons man already facing charges in a welfare fraud investigation has been arrested again after deputies say he failed to appear in court multiple times.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Jonathan Tarver, 35, of Franklin Street in the Town of Lyons, on three outstanding warrants issued after he missed scheduled appearances in Lyons Town Court.
Authorities said the warrants stem from earlier charges connected to a welfare fraud case investigated in March, when Tarver was accused of misusing a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT card by allowing another person to make unauthorized purchases.
During that earlier incident, deputies said Tarver fled on foot when they attempted to arrest him, crossing a marked no-trespass railroad track before being taken into custody. He was charged at the time with misuse of food stamps, petit larceny, third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, then released with appearance tickets pending court action.
Deputies said Tarver failed to appear in court on three separate dates related to those charges, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants.
Following his most recent arrest, Tarver was again charged with petit larceny, misuse of food stamps, two counts of third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest.
He was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and was scheduled to be arraigned later the same day.
