The New York Mets fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-0, on Monday night at Dodger Stadium, extending their losing streak to six games as their offensive struggles continued. New York managed just three hits and has now gone 20 consecutive innings without scoring, as the Dodgers took control early and never looked back.
David Peterson ran into immediate trouble, allowing the first four batters to reach in the opening inning before limiting the damage to one run with three straight strikeouts. The left-hander settled in briefly but was tagged again in the third inning when Andy Pages launched a three-run home run that pushed the Dodgers’ lead to 4-0. Peterson finished with seven strikeouts but allowed four runs on five hits and four walks across five innings, as his ERA climbed to 6.41.
The Mets’ offense could not solve Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski, who kept New York off balance throughout his outing. The left-hander worked deep into the game, allowing just three hits while facing the minimum into the late innings. Jorge Polanco, Marcus Semien and Francisco Alvarez accounted for the Mets’ only hits, all singles, with two erased by double plays. Tommy Pham, in his return to the lineup, went hitless in three at-bats.
There were minor positives out of the bullpen, as Craig Kimbrel worked a scoreless inning and Joey Gerber struck out five over the final two frames. Still, the lack of run support continued to define New York’s recent slide.
The Mets will look to snap their skid on Tuesday at 10:10 p.m. when they continue their series against the Dodgers.
