A Corning man is facing misdemeanor charges after authorities say he used another person’s food stamp benefits without permission over the course of several weeks last year.
Investigators with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested 62-year-old Joseph Kizis on April 6 following an investigation into the alleged misuse of an electronic benefits transfer card.
According to Sheriff Jim Allard, Kizis is accused of using another individual’s EBT card between October 19 and November 16, 2025, obtaining $360.09 in benefits he was not eligible to receive.
Kizis was charged with petit larceny and misuse of food stamps, both class A misdemeanors.
Authorities said he was issued an appearance ticket and released pending further court proceedings.
The sheriff’s office credited the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, along with the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office, for assisting in the investigation.
