A house fire in Cayuga County destroyed a home in the town of Cato earlier this month.
Firefighters responded to Slab City Road on March 20 after reports of a working structure fire.
The home belonged to the Woodward family, who lost the residence and several pets in the blaze.
Crews were called to 10195 Slab City Road at about 2:48 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
Conditions worsened during the response, prompting firefighters to evacuate the structure while battling the fire.
The house sustained severe fire and water damage, and crews remained on scene for more than three hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

According to the campaign, the fire also claimed the lives of the family’s dog, a bearded dragon and a cat.
Organizers said donations will help cover temporary housing, replace essential belongings and support the family as they recover.
