State, Micron announce M for CNY projects

New York officials and Micron Technology announced more than $43 million in community investments tied to a major semiconductor project in Central New York.

The funding includes nearly $35 million from Micron and $8.5 million from the state to support housing, workforce development and infrastructure.

The investments are part of the $500 million Green CHIPS Community Investment Fund linked to Micron’s planned semiconductor facility.

Funding will support projects including a new bus route between Syracuse and Clay, job training programs and expanded child care services.

Additional funding will support workforce training, including construction trades, commercial driver training and apprenticeship programs.

Officials said the investments aim to prepare the region for expected growth tied to the Micron project.

The semiconductor project is expected to create thousands of jobs and drive long-term economic development in Central New York.
