Nucor employees launched the nine-week program with school assemblies that taught kids how recycling protects wildlife, reduces pollution, and turns old metal into new products. Students then collected aluminum cans, bottles, and scrap metal at school and local redemption centers.

The effort brought in 7,501 cans and bottles plus 420 pounds of scrap metal. The recycling generated $408.05, which the school’s parent-teacher group will use for student activities, field trips, and assemblies.
