The Village of Weedsport has received a $1 million state infrastructure grant to advance water-system improvements supporting housing and community development, Cayuga County officials announced Thursday.
Cayuga County served as the eligible applicant after the county Legislature voted to support the village's application, according to a release from Legislature Chairman Jonathan Anna.
Officials said the award will help fund Weedsport's ongoing water-infrastructure project and create capacity for future housing and economic development.
Anna said stronger infrastructure can help remove barriers to new housing, redevelopment and private investment. He described the project as part of a broader effort to address aging water systems while preparing for residential and commercial growth.
The county Legislature said it plans to continue working with municipalities to identify state and federal funding opportunities for infrastructure, housing and economic-development projects.
