New York’s budget talks are hitting turbulence as leaders clash over immigration policy and the state’s climate law, according to Spectrum News.

Gov. Kathy Hochul is pressing lawmakers to reach an immigration deal before passing the rest of the budget. Legislative leaders want a broader package tied to the New York for All Act, while Hochul backs more limited changes, including ending certain agreements between local police and federal immigration officials.

Lawmakers are also battling over the state’s 2019 climate law. Hochul warns strict emissions deadlines could drive up utility bills, but many Democratic lawmakers say they won’t weaken the law as negotiations continue ahead of the budget deadline.
