Seneca Falls supervisor rebuked over ‘girl’ remark

Tension flared in Waterloo after a supervisor referred to a female employee as “this girl,” according to the Finger Lakes Times. Jennifer Kuplinski Wick interrupted a Seneca County Human Resources Committee meeting to call the comment inappropriate and derogatory.

Committee Chair Frank Schmitter continued the meeting and later said he meant no disrespect. He said he respects women and used the phrase only to clarify the employee’s role.

Kuplinski Wick said the language sounded unprofessional and needed to be addressed, even if unintentional. She added that similar concerns have surfaced before and shouldn’t go unchecked.
