New York ranks as the ninth-best state for women in 2026, according to a new WalletHub study released for Women’s History Month.
The personal finance company compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 measures, including earnings, health care access and safety.
New York placed fifth for median earnings for female workers when adjusted for cost of living.
The state ranked sixth for the female uninsured rate and third for women’s life expectancy at birth. It also placed eighth for the quality of women’s hospitals and 10th for women’s preventive health care.
Not all rankings were as strong.

New York came in 18th for the share of women-owned businesses and 29th for high school graduation rate for women.
WalletHub said it weighed factors such as economic prospects, health care quality and safety to determine overall rankings.
Massachusetts topped the list as the best state for women in 2026, according to the report.
