United Way launches youth art contest

Young artists across Cayuga County have a chance to see their work on hundreds of T-shirts this summer as part of the United Way’s annual Day of Caring.

The United Way of Cayuga County is now accepting entries for its fifth annual Youth Drawing Contest, which will determine the design for the 2026 Day of Caring event shirt.

The winning design will appear on the front of the volunteer T-shirt. Runner-up and second runner-up artwork will be printed on the back.

Last year, more than 370 volunteers wore the shirts while completing 19 projects in communities including Fair Haven, Montezuma, Auburn, Union Springs, Aurora and Poplar Ridge.

The contest is open to youth ages 10 through high school senior who live in or attend school in Cayuga County. Submissions must be line drawings, with hand-drawn work preferred, and must be secular.

Entries are due by Friday, April 17.

United Way staff will review submissions and the board of directors will select finalists. Community voting will take place in early May, both in person at sites across the county and online. The organization will announce the winner and runners-up during a Facebook Live event.

The winner and both runners-up will receive a T-shirt, art supplies and a gift card. Prizes will be presented at Day of Caring Breakfast Rallies on Aug. 6 in Auburn and Union Springs.
