New York’s New Americans Hotline will now operate on weekends, expanding access to free immigration help across the state.
The New York State Office for New Americans announced Thursday that the hotline will add Saturday and Sunday hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will continue weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The hotline connects callers to free immigration-related services and referrals. Assistance is available in more than 200 languages. Operators include multilingual staff and a full-time immigration attorney.
Since January 2025, the hotline has answered 21,159 calls and made 42,207 referrals, according to the state.
Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley said the expanded hours aim to reach more families.
“The expansion of the New Americans Hotline includes longer weekday hours and added weekend hours, strengthening our commitment at a time when immigrant families are facing so much fear and uncertainty,” Mosley said.
The hotline is managed by Catholic Charities Community Services of the Archdiocese of New York under a state grant.
J Antonio Fernandez, CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, said the service is “a free and confidential service—available in more than 200 languages—that connects individuals and families to English language learning, community resources, and legal referrals.”
Callers can seek referrals for free legal services, including help for people in immigration detention. The hotline also provides information about community workshops, including Know Your Rights and family preparedness trainings. It accepts reports of immigration fraud.
The New York State Thruway Authority will post bilingual information about the expanded hours in all 27 service areas along the Thruway system starting Thursday.
The Office for New Americans launched in 2012 and operates a statewide network of service providers.
