Syracuse women’s lacrosse drops to 0-3 with loss to No. 2 Stanford

Syracuse women’s lacrosse erased a late deficit but No. 2 Stanford scored twice in the final minutes to secure an 8-6 victory Friday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

No. 13 Syracuse dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic Coast play despite a strong defensive effort and efficient possession game. The Orange finished a perfect 17-for-17 on clears and held a 10-6 advantage in draw controls.

Molly Guzik and Caroline Trinkaus paced Syracuse offensively with three points each, recording two goals and one assist apiece. Goalkeeper Daniella Guyette made nine saves and posted a .529 save percentage, marking her second straight game above .500.

Stanford opened the scoring before Guzik responded with a free-position goal to tie the contest. After the Cardinal built a 4-2 first-quarter lead, Syracuse answered in the second period, holding Stanford scoreless while goals from Ashlee Volpe and Bri Peters evened the game at 4-4 heading into halftime.

Stanford regained momentum early in the third quarter, scoring twice to move ahead 6-4 entering the final frame. Syracuse responded again as Trinkaus converted a player-up opportunity before adding the equalizer off an assist from Mackenzie Rich with just under 10 minutes remaining.

The Cardinal pulled away late, netting the go-ahead goal with 6:21 left before adding an insurance tally less than a minute later. Ava Arceri, Lindsey Devir and Aliya Polisky each scored twice for Stanford, with Polisky finishing with four points.
