Auburn could see a major cash bump in the next state budget, with Gov. Kathy Hochul proposing $1.2 million more for the city, according to The Citizen. The increase comes as part of her 30-day budget amendments, which add $150 million in aid for municipalities outside New York City.
If approved, Auburn would receive $1.7 million in Temporary Municipal Assistance, up from about $578,000, plus nearly $5 million in base AIM funding. Mayor Jimmy Giannettino called the proposal significant as the city faces rising costs for core services.
Larger cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers would each gain $10 million more. Lawmakers will now review the plan before the new fiscal year starts April 1.
