A veteran State Police investigator admitted he lied to federal agents after tipping off a fentanyl suspect, according to the Times Union. Prosecutors say he warned a former confidential informant about a covert Dutchess County narcotics probe tied to deadly pills.
Michael O’Flaherty, 43, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to making false statements. Investigators say he concealed a personal relationship with the suspect, shared sensitive details and lied about meetings and messages when agents questioned him.
The case began in 2022 during a joint state and DEA investigation. O’Flaherty now faces up to five years in prison, though sentencing guidelines could reduce that. A judge will sentence him July 21 in White Plains.
