A new mental health practice has opened its doors in northern Cayuga County, aiming to expand access to counseling and holistic care.
Brave North Therapy began seeing clients Jan. 2 at 2211 State Route 31 in Port Byron.
Founder Kimberly Fortin said she launched the group practice to meet growing demand for services after 12 years in private practice.
“After twelve years in private practice, the demands for mental health services continued to grow and I saw an opportunity to expand into a group private practice,” Fortin said. “I wanted the new practice to be accessible for our clients, it’s important that we accept insurance, there is adequate parking, and the space is welcoming and safe.”
Fortin also said she wanted to create a supportive workplace for clinicians.
“It was also important to me that the therapists who work here also feel safe, supported, and that their needs are being met,” she said. “Therapists need to feel supported in their own lives and be able to prioritize self-care to prevent burnout so they can provide the best services possible to their clients.”
Brave North Therapy provides services for adults and adolescents. The practice offers individual therapy for needs such as anxiety, depression and trauma, along with family and couples therapy.
The team also provides lifestyle therapy focused on the connection between mental and physical health, as well as ecotherapy that uses nature and the outdoors to promote well-being.
The practice offers in-person services to Cayuga and nearby counties and telehealth services throughout New York and South Carolina. It accepts most major insurance plans and also offers self-pay options.
