Stark health inequities across Tompkins County are driving a new five-year response plan, according to a newly released community health assessment. Tompkins County Whole Health found wide gaps tied to race, income, and geography, especially in mental health, housing stability, and prenatal care.
The report flags high depression rates among youth and older adults, links student substance use to emotional distress, and shows uneven access to care despite strong local services. Housing, nutrition security, chronic disease prevention, substance misuse, and prenatal care emerged as the top priorities.
County health leaders say the data now guides the next step: a Community Health Improvement Plan aimed at turning years of research into coordinated action with local partners.
