With state cleanup set for this summer, Corning City Council just took its first steps toward rebuilding McKinney Park, according to WENY.
Council members unanimously approved two resolutions: one to pursue a state parks grant that could cover up to 90% of costs for upgrades like a new playground, walking path, and drainage fixes, and another naming the city as lead agency for environmental review under SEQR.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation plans to remediate contamination at the park in 2026. If grant funding comes through, city leaders hope construction on improvements could begin in summer 2027.
