Drivers across New York could see lower auto insurance bills under a new anti-fraud push, according to News10NBC.
Gov. Kathy Hochul says New Yorkers pay the highest auto insurance rates in the country, averaging about $4,000 a year. Her plan focuses on cracking down on insurance fraud, which officials say drives premiums higher for everyone.
The strategy expands enforcement through the DMV, state police, and the Department of Financial Services, with tougher penalties for fraud, stricter oversight of medical claims, and action against illegal out-of-state vehicle registrations.
Hochul also wants more transparency for policyholders and incentives for safe driving. The plan depends on approval of the 2026 state budget.
